A Child's Good Night Book by Margaret Wise Brown. Illustrated by Jean Charlot. New York: William R. Scott, 1943. 5.5" x 6.75" according to my measurement. Not Ex-Library, Not Facsimile, Not Print on Demand. The scarce 1943 First printing. Particularly scarce in DUST JACKET: price -clipped, missing 1/4" at te bottom of the spine, has numerous minor chips and tears on the edges, protected with mylar dust jacket cover. BOOK: Cover has edgewear, heavieron corner tips, more at top and bottom of the spine. There is previous owner book plate inside the front cover the is interesting to not that it is designed by 'Wolo' (Wolo von Trutzschler)a well known and desirable author and illustrator of chldrens' books particularly "Archibald" and "Friendship Valley" whose actual name was Baron Wolff Erhardt Anton George Trutzschler von Falkenstein. (Sorry, this is a description of a Margaret Wise Brown book, not a wolo book plate) THere are erasure marks on the first blank page and other than a light fold to the first 2 page top tips, the pages are flat with no creases or folds. There are no child markings in the book. Binding is tight with no looseness to the pages, however, I do detect what appears to be the remnants of a lank page between the rear blank flyleaf and the rear end paper.

This is an early book by Margaret Wise Brown who is the well-known and prolific author of "Good-Night Moon" and "Runaway Bunny" “There was library buyer resistance to the size [of the first edition]—shelving was fixed and, in the 40s, librarians were inflexible—with the result that A Child’s Good Night Book was redone in 1950 in a standard large vertical format” (Bader, 270). (The typos are mine) A 1944 Caldecott Honor book for Charlot's illustrations. Charlot collaborated with Brown on several books.   AH15c
